Addressing food insecurity through social enterprise.
DCWC Nourish (a social enterprise of the Duluth Center for Women and Children) is a meal kit service rooted in the Central Hillside community, created to ensure families have access to healthy, affordable food.
Locally Grown: Women-Led Solutions for Lasting Change
DCWC Nourish (formerly Food Forward) is more than just a meal delivery service—it’s a fully grassroots initiative created by the women of the Central Hillside, driven by a deep understanding of the unique challenges our community faces. Since our founding in 2022, we’ve delivered over 7,000 meal kits, helping low-income families in Duluth develop and sustain healthy eating habits.
Meal Kit FAQs
-
The meal kits (with digital instructions) are delivered at your doorstep, or an alternate location of your preference, on Mondays between 11:30 and 4:30 pm. We are currently serving the Hillside neighborhood and up to 30th Ave E and neighborhoods close to UMD.
-
We use mason jars and crates as much as possible to reduce packaging waste. However, environmentally friendly reusable packaging is expensive. We expect our customers to cooperate by returning all jars, lids and the crate each week. When we deliver your meal kit, we will pickup your returns from the previous week.
-
We charge $12/family member/week. Children under 6 years old get a half serving, so their meal only costs $6/week. The best part is that paying full price for the meal servings sponsors someone else to receive their kit for free! We will email you an invoice at the end of the month. You have an option to pay online by simply clicking on the link or mail us a check.
-
Yes, if the meal kit doesn't work for your family or for any other reasons, you may stop anytime. Should that be the case, we would like to to know more about why you stopped so we can factor the feedback into our continuous improvement plan.
